We recently learned that the families in Gerona are in desperate need of containers to store water. Because they do not have access to running water, they are dependent on trucks from the government that deliver water every other day. The problem is that many families don't have containers to store the water. These containers are $30 each and each family needs two. I want to tell you about the experience I had being sponsored in my elementary school studying at the evangelical school Casita Adonai. I started studying more or less when I was 3 years old and I received sponsorship at the age of 8. I was in second grade when the Pinon family sponsored me. I want to send them greetings and thanks because thanks to them and Caroline's Promise I was able to finish my schooling. <p></p><p>I must emphasize that every year they sent me gifts, which I appreciate even more since it was not enough for them to support me at school but they sent me gifts and that is saying a lot. It was a blessing and a great support for my family and for myself, in addition there were many more people that I also remember with great affection. </p><p>I am currently 18 years and thanks to all those efforts is that I can say that I graduated from a bachelor's degree in computing with a scientific orientation and at this point in my life, I have the opportunity to go to University and be able to have a better life. I am currently looking for work, since I just finished the aforementioned degree. I would definitely like to meet the people who sponsored me and I would like to see the person who made all this possible again. </p><table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjQcRePHPTJxK7hD6b196HAvn71K7rFD_GSP7bAhV_N1Sw2GLZFeRBPYBzV5o6TfD0VpUbvzLuBMJvy-pwUgouRVzbqkhWvg0WJ6p2L3oDYqEJMEwP-unQJP8hyRyFei7qQva_njRO-35P59J2ohUIQOjxLTUjNkRCX-_waKjw9BBC5WJKzF8utuGCV=s206" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="206" data-original-width="206" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjQcRePHPTJxK7hD6b196HAvn71K7rFD_GSP7bAhV_N1Sw2GLZFeRBPYBzV5o6TfD0VpUbvzLuBMJvy-pwUgouRVzbqkhWvg0WJ6p2L3oDYqEJMEwP-unQJP8hyRyFei7qQva_njRO-35P59J2ohUIQOjxLTUjNkRCX-_waKjw9BBC5WJKzF8utuGCV=w400-h400" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Jeremy with CP Team Leader, Grace </td></tr></tbody></table><p></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Caroline's Promisehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07668625615748210091noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8760758970367168504.post-8222996889264689842022-03-02T08:00:00.023-05:002022-03-02T08:00:00.196-05:00Mission team member's "idea" + Facebook Fundraiser = Jobs in San Nicolas <p> <span style="font-size: medium;"><span>Our last team to Guatemala was in November of 2019. That seems impossible but it's true. </span><span>The primary focus of the team was a pediatric medical clinic that was hugely successful. However, that wasn't the only seed that was planted that week in the community of San Nicolas. </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgXicAvYEx7S0blhNu-urphgR52QTPxwUVPTFMMVNnTJlprSt-CSd38CJIAV1wV25Ti0PPmcLjZ7nmbLgoJRAI2pTm1DdVkSICxAQ6lrK61iHKfK5ImO7__8Lp4YE7IV5eyBKjWljmGtD5RN1-gX76aIdTQdKNdQrYkojZZqs3zgBzaZ-3WkLfQmYbq=s1316" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1316" data-original-width="640" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgXicAvYEx7S0blhNu-urphgR52QTPxwUVPTFMMVNnTJlprSt-CSd38CJIAV1wV25Ti0PPmcLjZ7nmbLgoJRAI2pTm1DdVkSICxAQ6lrK61iHKfK5ImO7__8Lp4YE7IV5eyBKjWljmGtD5RN1-gX76aIdTQdKNdQrYkojZZqs3zgBzaZ-3WkLfQmYbq=w195-h400" width="195" /></a></span></div><span style="font-size: medium;">Wanda King has been going to Guatemala with Caroline's Promise for years. We can always count on her to bring hand sanitizer, goodie bags that she and her sister make for everyone, and lots of love! One of the things I love most about Wanda is that she is willing to step in and do anything that is asked of her. A few weeks before this trip she asked if she could bring a set of hair cutting supplies. I didn't know if there was a need, but I knew that Wanda felt strongly that she should bring them and so I said "of course!" Little did we know the impact that one idea would make. <br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Wanda spent most of that week teaching our partner, Monica how to cut hair. We quickly realized that because San Nicolas is so isolated and no-one is trained to give haircuts, the need is great. Monica took right to the skills that Wanda taught her and especially enjoyed their time together. Once we left she started giving haircuts to people in the community. Before long she and Rodrigo asked if Caroline's Promise would support their idea to teach people in the community. And we said "Of course!"</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">You have to know that Caroline's Promise doesn't have money sitting around for projects like this. When we are approached about a need or an idea, we always ask our partners to do their research and present a budget and then we look for individuals in the States who can raise funds. One of the easiest ways to do this has been through Facebook Birthday Fundraisers. It's amazing how someone asking for a donation on their birthday leads to the funding of new projects!</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEh8Wx9X0iERqT1ZmWq1jNxqYrvkDwOYC5KouhqXXHpp4d4SORT7P5-yZiQ1ZJn85Xs_7ET6LKZLBEoFqnJdjQ-_6VhNB8HVM4xzDd0iXoJ1SktBpqYtRDEk0f-HxoSYbUy9DaZfSjIKiKzd9AKEui64yqtTkhIxnEc8ii65_i9pgjcc0iAtmYJ0yX-m=s800" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="800" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEh8Wx9X0iERqT1ZmWq1jNxqYrvkDwOYC5KouhqXXHpp4d4SORT7P5-yZiQ1ZJn85Xs_7ET6LKZLBEoFqnJdjQ-_6VhNB8HVM4xzDd0iXoJ1SktBpqYtRDEk0f-HxoSYbUy9DaZfSjIKiKzd9AKEui64yqtTkhIxnEc8ii65_i9pgjcc0iAtmYJ0yX-m=s320" width="320" /></a></div><span style="font-size: medium;">Caroline's Promise Board Member, Stephanie DiMora asked what she should focus on for her Facebook Birthday Fundraiser and I knew right away that with her heart for jobs skills training and business development, the San Nicolas Salon & School would be a perfect fit. Stephanie's friends supported the fundraiser and within a month Rodrigo and Monica were teaching classes in their new salon. </span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Stephanie's friend, Sandy shared with us why she chose to support this FB Birthday Fundraiser:</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">"It's one thing - and often necessary - to give toward immediate needs in charity. What I find more impactful is investing in activities that help break the cycle of poverty. That's why I believe strongly in empowering Guatemalan women through support of their micro businesses."</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dxePZ4csjeIjSXxdWTdy-FRaZow5aSicoz84CQJD3zADPRYjm0dnwJfrgkRqKM59PEhyiuLxj11EMac_G8zcg' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><span style="font-size: medium;">I often say that Caroline's Promise is a team - where everyone thrives. Since I was 4 years old I started studying <br />at Casita Adonai, since I was approximately 5 years old. I received sponsorship from people I did not know, for me it was very emotional to receive that help, and affection with samples of gifts. When I was in 4th grade I received a visit from Abigail Juchs. Her family and she sponsored me for several years. That day I was able to meet her it was very nice to share a moment with her. I feel very grateful to her God and Lisa that through Carolina's Promise they gave me the opportunity to be sponsored, and so I could finish my primary school. She was timid and nervous and I often thought that if I yelled, "Boo!" she would fall apart. Most people who meet Brooke now would not recognize that girl.<p></p><p>That trip wasn't my first interaction with Brooke. I was in the hospital the night that her father passed away. A sudden, traumatic time for a young girl and her Mom. My heart wanted to scoop her up and help her through the healing process but life didn't allow that. Years later there she was on that mission team. Little did I know she would become my friend and an integral part of Caroline's Promise. </p><p>One of the greatest joys that has come from leading Caroline's Promise has been doing life with people, watching them grow and become who they were created to be. I have a lot of great memories of Brooke but two stand out. </p><p><br /></p><p>We were at Casita Adonai School and Brooke spoke very little Spanish. I walked down the hall and looked through a window to see Brooke standing in front of a classroom of students - commanding their attention. All eyes were on her as she tried to communicate. In that moment I thought, "Wow! She would make a great teacher!" I still believe that God used that trip to confirm her calling to teach. <p></p><p>The second memory was the summer after she graduated high school. We were riding on a bus in Guatemala City and I looked over to see Brooke crying. She had just gotten news from home that her financial aid for college was not working out. It seemed like her dream of going to UNC-Charlotte to study education was dying. As I listened to her share her heart something rose up inside of me. I now know that it was the gift of faith and that was the first time I had ever experienced something so strong. I just knew that Brooke's dream would become a reality - because it was God's dream for her. I remember the look in her eyes as I boldly asked her,</p><p> "Do you believe you're supposed to be a teacher?"</p><p> She whimpered, "Yes". </p><p> "Well then stop stressing and start believing that God is going to work it out!"</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgc_V4P9CTbLuh0KdxxfySzjEb_FCQISB_hDFJpDx0jhZT4vuZMMM7mae4BR-Tan3O1Zd7sdNICY7jA4vwHYZS4iILa3XJpsS8aNw9KE16XYZXtusnEtiUVjxof1WyMQ0kqo4FhQRzSlEvqLV0eAW_ObckE128j94jVm832RktXqgt2vsngVAxbErnC=s2048" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1362" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgc_V4P9CTbLuh0KdxxfySzjEb_FCQISB_hDFJpDx0jhZT4vuZMMM7mae4BR-Tan3O1Zd7sdNICY7jA4vwHYZS4iILa3XJpsS8aNw9KE16XYZXtusnEtiUVjxof1WyMQ0kqo4FhQRzSlEvqLV0eAW_ObckE128j94jVm832RktXqgt2vsngVAxbErnC=s320" width="213" /></a></div><br /><br /><p></p><p><br /></p><p>It's been 10 years since Brooke's first trip to Guatemala. She worked hard to raise money and before long her account was fully funded. She jumped right in, helping her team plan a week of ministry and she even hosted team meetings in her home. We were excited for her to meet our friends in Guatemala and we loved getting to know her!</p><p>Then....COVID-19. The disappointment when we cancelled our 2020 teams was real. As the months went on and it became clear that we would not be taking teams in 2021, Joanna contacted us and asked if the money in her trip account could be used to support a project in Guatemala. It was at that exact time that we learned of a need for funding of a Vacation Bible School in the community of San Nicolas and we quickly applied Joanna's trip account to this need. </p><p>This week the kids and families in San Nicolas are enjoying a huge VBS, thanks to Joanna! </p><p>Rodrigo and Monica have been able to plan and organize without the stress of wondering how they would fund the activities. What a relief to them!</p><p>An average of 190 kids have attended each day. Thank you Joanna for your support! </p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dyD153m_XOjNKiA79Qru9jUOPOyClhtORziOFK2MQhYf4sG84M7T4vWNN7OQAATtdYtBZLbPn6ou9w48Or8rA' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgOQ70YmHzG3plL2oaTf8fleUg3D5Vh2eeCmhz8LSUf6OOTlxMqCilfapLMhbwBrcIw4aaqHr7-KNnwHUrWRValB2V8vLc7ffg7pO_LBGlaIPzu7LikrbtJXYqX2Lm4MIaHIbvwDPG9wMWDtAfh9QxjTQjDhiVnvZul9RkZPKDTPKul3cG-klezbPDb=s2048" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgOQ70YmHzG3plL2oaTf8fleUg3D5Vh2eeCmhz8LSUf6OOTlxMqCilfapLMhbwBrcIw4aaqHr7-KNnwHUrWRValB2V8vLc7ffg7pO_LBGlaIPzu7LikrbtJXYqX2Lm4MIaHIbvwDPG9wMWDtAfh9QxjTQjDhiVnvZul9RkZPKDTPKul3cG-klezbPDb=s320" width="320" /></a><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhAzYV7v_LTU7qkP28Sgmmjgwbj7ox5yG1SwOCk-b6U3hCd-dGn3-I3BbXUqWde3xhjuwXTemK4NGgK44NMo9tDPIngqn3vIME185P1XEA0JyhTcfk91ExKlZ6PoXozZ8zn_ZQOq7IzWi2-kMk5PxS4HVTddBtU0c18cd-pynrhEnhUDmyXwcEmbPhY=s1280" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="960" data-original-width="1280" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhAzYV7v_LTU7qkP28Sgmmjgwbj7ox5yG1SwOCk-b6U3hCd-dGn3-I3BbXUqWde3xhjuwXTemK4NGgK44NMo9tDPIngqn3vIME185P1XEA0JyhTcfk91ExKlZ6PoXozZ8zn_ZQOq7IzWi2-kMk5PxS4HVTddBtU0c18cd-pynrhEnhUDmyXwcEmbPhY=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhZSnFZQsmGjyjOPgLmYE0q1vUCIQlXpT8GIMNZaruKCuNGraqYLld-YgchRZxLdCXgoxtpcTS6zp2A8ggMTaIWn6aFegIw827WKkVgGm-X3uRhbnZkwtKatx-g-1uEmPTFa-BR2oR1sYjrbIuVy6lXlM2gL33Pmz_SFiqt4RJry8TEiiur-1eV4iLn=s2048" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhZSnFZQsmGjyjOPgLmYE0q1vUCIQlXpT8GIMNZaruKCuNGraqYLld-YgchRZxLdCXgoxtpcTS6zp2A8ggMTaIWn6aFegIw827WKkVgGm-X3uRhbnZkwtKatx-g-1uEmPTFa-BR2oR1sYjrbIuVy6lXlM2gL33Pmz_SFiqt4RJry8TEiiur-1eV4iLn=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhtuQkQgPirgrle9u5GLs0NrEyBCz77OBknpIm1PaDmJ8D9T8MwWxF0gkRsgd_SdqZsxQjr3zMqcWgo6JWgFX2HvJuBqj0ZLPbZQOwroYLJ2lY8J49KdJ3bq8m-vr5SI6jkkYX8Ltm0zf-abUDFqXTqo7kLdBXR5zmpBtuCbGQLA4R-b4cFilTU1PB2=s2048" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhtuQkQgPirgrle9u5GLs0NrEyBCz77OBknpIm1PaDmJ8D9T8MwWxF0gkRsgd_SdqZsxQjr3zMqcWgo6JWgFX2HvJuBqj0ZLPbZQOwroYLJ2lY8J49KdJ3bq8m-vr5SI6jkkYX8Ltm0zf-abUDFqXTqo7kLdBXR5zmpBtuCbGQLA4R-b4cFilTU1PB2=s320" width="240" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Caroline's Promisehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07668625615748210091noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8760758970367168504.post-86868927924575234272021-12-15T07:14:00.002-05:002021-12-15T07:18:36.119-05:00Where are they now? He was always on the go and a little mischievous. We stay in touch with Adam's mom who we grew to love during our trips to Guatemala. Adam is now 17 and has finished high school. He fondly remembers receiving art supplies from his sponsors, <i><b>Dan & Patti</b></i> and of course he remembers meeting Dan when he traveled to Guatemala with a team from Wendover Hills Wesleyan. <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgJCtYRsARbhDK1fRJYKkxsic1T9hF2OozeQFvckTJRrWrT0FXMLYed1Zzppev4E9MEJQkiHONf1XzT9Nho9a3bAsLR5K2hMFVfj4W3KCdomp_GGOoSwPLQVy8KP95iAwWrHxMG9jI6i9xIq2wfF7U07n-aJMzdchKPEIDOvIrF2Moik4j76omkoa13=s3264" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2448" data-original-width="3264" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgJCtYRsARbhDK1fRJYKkxsic1T9hF2OozeQFvckTJRrWrT0FXMLYed1Zzppev4E9MEJQkiHONf1XzT9Nho9a3bAsLR5K2hMFVfj4W3KCdomp_GGOoSwPLQVy8KP95iAwWrHxMG9jI6i9xIq2wfF7U07n-aJMzdchKPEIDOvIrF2Moik4j76omkoa13=w400-h300" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Adam with Dan</td></tr></tbody></table><br /></span></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Adam has asked us to pray for wisdom as he studies for his college entrance exams. I have lived my whole life in Guatemala City and since I was in my mother's womb I have attended a church. I had the opportunity for Caroline’s Promise to come to my church and start a sponsorship program. I was blessed to be sponsored by Aida for much of my childhood until I was 18 years old. When the sponsorship program began, my father went in search of the American dream, but the money he sent was simply not enough to support a family of 6 and sometimes there were seasons in which he was unemployed. Just in those moments of need the help of Caroline’s Promise arrived. It was certainly God's support for my family. </span></span></p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><span style="font-size: medium;">A stage that marked my life during adolescence was when my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Oak trees are an amazing creation. They seem almost magical in their ability to grow a mighty oak tree from a tiny cute acorn. We often focus on the beauty of the tree or its acorns- but the most intriguing part might be the unseen part, its roots. The roots of the tree bring nourishment, protect against illness and drought, they even serve as an anchor when the wind blows. Without the roots, we don’t have the tree. <br />
<br />
Oak tree roots in particular are unique. When all grown, the roots might be 4-7 times larger than the width of the tree. Even if there is devastation, like a fire, a new tree can sprout from the roots of the old tree. One of my favorite parts I never knew- <i><b>when Oak trees are planted beside each other, their roots can merge tougher and even graph together to become an interconnected system. Stronger, more secure, supportive. </b></i><br />
<br />
God never uses words carelessly. He said in Isaiah 61:3<br />
<br />
“They will be called oaks of righteousness,<br />
a planting of the Lord<br />
for the display of his splendor.”<br />
<br />
These Oaks have much to teach us about how God views us, what He wants for us and how He wants us to live. God has given this verse to Caroline’s Promise as a focus and vision for the ministry. <br />
<br />
We want to support the communities and people we work with to have roots that provide life and nourishment. We want to stand beside people and communities that are also filled with people supporting each other, so that we all are stronger, helping give each other. And when devastation comes, we don’t lack hope- the roots are there, and from them grows LIFE. <i><b>That isn’t just for Caroline’s Promise and the communities we work in… God promises that for all of us in Jesus.</b></i> Hope…life….our anchor from all that comes. When we stand beside someone, we are both stronger.<br />

We are thrilled for the opportunity to provide life saving water filters and hygiene training to our communities in Guatemala this summer. We will begin this project in June with 50 families in the community of Gerona.<br />
<br />
Each water filter will last 10 years and provide an easy and effective way to purify water.<br />
<br />
Our friends at Just One Africa have been using these filters in Kenya and we are thankful for their willingness to help us with our plan. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1XmaysAVj4&feature=youtu.be" target="_blank">Check out their video </a>of how the filters work. <br />
<br />
Each filter is $65. If you would like to be a part of this project, <a href="https://carolinespromise.kindful.com/?campaign=346637" target="_blank">donate here. </a><br />
<br />
Be sure to follow us on social media to catch all of the water filter updates to come!<br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;">"Over the past few years, we have been partnering with a community in Guatemala called Gerona. At first, many people felt closed off, not feeling like they had space in their hearts for new friends. But after a few years, it has become the highlight of each week to visit this community. For years, we were ministering to only children. Parents were never seen, especially fathers. However, little by little, some mothers began coming to church and now there is a very strong presence of women in the community attending church weekly. When ministering in Gerona, we always stayed confined in the four walls of a retreat center, however, any chance I would get, I would hop in the truck or in the bus to visit a friend’s home down the street. As much as I loved visiting, I always felt a dark presence throughout the community. </span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;">This past summer a lot of our ministry took place in Gerona, but in order to bring people into what we were doing, we had to go out in the community and invite them to our activities. During the weeks that I was there, I and many others ended up going down the streets of Gerona door to door and meeting new people in the community and inviting them to experience Jesus. </span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;">One of the days we were walking through Gerona, we were </span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdctFB5e8qdymKlKt4bEwnp1f80ojeimNZlaevDCIONRVBgKb6_su1e61EOF3IyqXbQ3aiK3VT6Kc5wS4GxAs72RYicXQHTefUCfg4NHUP2e-sCYUUl79KHUOc-w-rlIgP4_lI0g6h34l8/s1600/IMG_0752.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdctFB5e8qdymKlKt4bEwnp1f80ojeimNZlaevDCIONRVBgKb6_su1e61EOF3IyqXbQ3aiK3VT6Kc5wS4GxAs72RYicXQHTefUCfg4NHUP2e-sCYUUl79KHUOc-w-rlIgP4_lI0g6h34l8/s320/IMG_0752.jpeg" width="320" /></a></span></span></div>

delivering sponsor food. We took dozens of 40+ pound bags full of the supplies that sponsorship provides and delivered them to the children. After the first stop, many parents and children were inviting us to see their homes and wanted to continue talking to us, so we stayed. During this time, a family put on some music and forced the team to dance in front of everyone. Little by little children started to join in and we had a massive dance party in the middle of the street with at least 60 of our friends from Gerona. In the middle of dancing, I realized that it was almost 6pm. Now in Guatemala, the sun begins to set pretty early so it should have been half dark at that point. However, I looked up and saw the sun shining, brighter than I had ever seen before, right onto the street where we were dancing. It was incredibly hot, crowded, loud, fun, and through all of that all I could see was the LIGHT shining down upon the street and the children on it. In that moment, God spoke to me. He showed me that there was light in this community that had not been there before.</span></span><br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;">He had brought us back to the scripture that Caroline’s Promise is centered upon. Isaiah 61. This was a passage that I had been reading basically every day this year. That day the Lord told me that Gerona is our Isaiah 61 and that He is proclaiming LIGHT and HOPE over this community. </span></span><br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;">The Scripture says:</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;">“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;"> because the Lord has anointed me</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;"> to proclaim good news to the poor.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;"> He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;"> to proclaim freedom for the captives</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;"> and release from darkness for the prisoners"</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;"> The Lord sent us to this community many years ago to proclaim all of this for the people of Gerona and it began with the children in a small Sunday afternoon service started by our friends at Iglesia Adonai. Through this, the children and young teens are now becoming the second part of the scripture where it says: </span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;">“They will be called oaks of righteousness,</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;"> a planting of the Lord</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;"> for the display of his splendor. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;">They will rebuild the ancient ruins</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;"> and restore the places long devastated;</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;"> They will renew the ruined cities</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;"> that have been devastated for generations.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;"> Strangers will shepherd your flocks;</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;"> foreigners will work your fields and vineyards.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;">And you will be called priests of the Lord,</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;"> you will be named ministers of our God.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;"> You will feed on the wealth of nations,</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: large;"> and in their riches you will boast.”</span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"></span></span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">In the middle of the light shining on the children dancing, I looked and saw the parents, hiding from the heat in the shade. You could see in their faces the joy and the freedom that was just beyond the shadows, but there was still fear and doubt within them. <br /><br />It is now that our children will begin to minister to the adults in the community. To proclaim this scripture over them and to restore the places long devastated, to grow oaks or righteousness in their people, to allow God to work through them and to bring joy instead of mourning, to provide comfort for those that grieve. <br /><br /> One of the biggest needs in the community of Gerona is clean water. Caroline's Promise has found a way to provide water filters to families that will last 10 years. The cost is only $65 per family and we need you to partner with us to provide as many filters as possible to families this summer. <br /><br />Will you consider an end of year gift? <span style="font-size: 20px;">Over the next few days we will share stories of how your partnership in 2018 has helped us live out the <a data-cke-saved-href="http://www.carolinespromise.net/#values" href="http://www.carolinespromise.net/#values" target="_blank">core values</a> of<br />Caroline's Promise. </span></div>

If you pay, you’re in danger. If you don’t pay, you’re in danger. (Read <a href="http://carolinespromise.blogspot.com/2017/12/7-days-of-celebration-trauma-leads-to.html">Maria's story</a> of extortion) Therefore, <b>most of the women don’t even try to open a store front</b>. It doesn’t stop them from dreaming though.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">When we learned of their dreams (and the necessity of the income it could provide) and their obstacles to actually making a small business profitable, we began to dream too. We asked God what HE wanted us to do with these dreams. That’s when <a href="http://carolinespromise.blogspot.com/2017/10/florecer-launches-tomorrow.html">FLORECER </a>was conceived. </span><br />
<br />
FLORECER is the name of our artisan group in Guatemala, currently consisting of 4-6 women. When you see a product with a Florecer tag on it, you know that the product was hand made by our artisans. Florecer is also considered a social enterprise because profits made through the sale of the products are reinvested in the ministries of Caroline’s Promise. These ministries <b>directly impact the families of and communities</b> in which our artisans live and work. <br />
<br />
We understand that God has asked us to shine HIS light in the dark places that include modern day slavery, human trafficking, poverty, hunger, gangs and violence, and drugs. When we partner with our artisans to provide them with income, we are shining HIS light into their lives. We are fighting for justice in an upside down world. <br />
<br />
We have more goals and dreams for Florecer and for CP’s Fair Trade branch. <b>One of those goals is to purchase quality sewing machines for our artisan group</b>. The sewing machines they are using have age and wear and are basic machines. To continue making quality products they need better machines. We have a goal of $3000 to purchase 6 machines ($500 each). <br />
<br />
We cannot make these dreams a reality without your partnership. From monetary donations for sewing machines to product design, from social media promotion to hosting a home or office party, there is likely a way for you to partner with us. <br />
