Okay - so I'm probably a little "behind" with this, but I thought I'd share it anyway because it's making such a difference in my home.
My oldest son, Kendall came home from school today chattering about a website - http://www.freerice.com/. We've kept our kids from the internet for the most part until recently. I was excited to see that his English teacher was giving them a way to learn and help others at the same time. The website has all sorts of quizzes: vocabulary, multiplication, different languages. Every time you get an answer correct - you gain more rice in your bowl. The rice is distributed through the UN World Food Program. Kendall was so excited that he's made a chart for the next 4 weeks. He's going to keep track of how much rice he's earned and sent to people across the world.
According to the United Nations, about 25,000 people die each day from hunger or hunger-related causes, most of them children.
I'm thrilled that Kendall is thinking of someone other than himself! And learning vocabulary at the same time? What Mom could ask for more?!!! Who says that kids can't make a difference?
