Christmas Shopping that Reclaims Hope!

The fall is an excellent time to book your Party with a Purpose!  We have several different styles of scarves from our ladies in Guatemala, beautiful jewelry from several groups working with victims of human trafficking, and gift items suitable for everyone!  Parties with a Purpose are great ways to get your community engaged in making a difference for others!  Here are some creative places to host a party:

·         In your home.  Consider inviting us to your annual Christmas party or class get together.
·         In your school.  When we come to your teacher’s lounge shopping gets easy for your teachers and staff!
·         In your church.  Are you having a Christmas tea or brunch?  We can set up our fair trade items and even provide a speaker if you need it!
·         In your community.  Do you know of craft fairs or festivals in your area?  Let us know and we may be able to set up a booth.
·         MOPS groups.  Life just got easier for your moms of preschoolers.  What better time to shop than when you have free child care!
·         At your business.  We can set up anywhere!

Here are just a few of the places where you can catch us in the coming weeks:

November 2 - Orphan Sunday at Wilson Community Church
December 9 - 9am - MOPS at Westover Church

Can't join us for the 5k? You can still make a difference!

Tomorrow is the big day!

Our 2nd Annual Hope Grows 5K & Family Fun Run

It's not too late to join us.  Register here.

We are so thankful to the many sponsors and volunteers who are working overtime to make this event possible.  We are excited about the awareness that will be raised.  Will you pray with us?  For safety, good weather and a good time.  We would love for God to open the eyes of those who participate to the needs of our friends in Guatemala.  Please pray with us that kids will be sponsored and people will realize that they too can make a difference.

Even if you can't join us tomorrow you can still make a difference.  We are raising funds that will allow us to continue construction on a building that will benefit both the school and the church.  You can make your tax deductible gift here.

Thanks for your prayers and your support!

Surprise Donation Enables Threads of Promise Sewing Program to Expand

It came at the perfect time.  An anonymous donation designated to the sewing program in Guatemala.  It was a surprise and a great encouragement at a time when things felt a little overwhelming.  It came on my (Lisa's) birthday, no less.

Psalm 37
Do not fret because of evildoers,
Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity.
For they shall soon be cut down like the grass,
And wither as the green herb.
Trust in the Lord, and do good;
Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
Delight yourself also in the Lord,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord,
Trust also in Him,
And He shall bring it to pass.
He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light,
And your justice as the noonday.

You can read the rest here.

While it feels as if everyone connected to Caroline's Promise is focused on construction of the new building, God still had Threads of Promise on his heart.  And He obviously put it on the heart of someone else.  And they gave.

So what does this mean?  It means that Caroline's Promise is able to help the dreams of our partners in Guatemala become a reality.  This past summer Delmi and I talked about expanding Threads of Promise into Gerona.  Gerona is an area outside of Guatemala City that in many ways has been forgotten.  The poverty can be overwhelming.  The malnourishment seems impossible to cure.  The needs are overwhelming.  And yet, our partner church, Iglesia Adonai has answered the call to plant a church there.

So we prayed.  Before I told Delmi about the unexpected donation she told me that they have already made plans to send Oneida to Gerona every Wednesday to begin sewing classes.  They were making plans in faith that God would supply.  And He did.

When I think of how the lives of these women are going to change because they will learn a skill and be able to work from home - I smile.  I know that the lives of the children will change because the lives of the mamas will
change.  I can see Oneida sharing Jesus with them every Wednesday morning.  I can see "community" develop like it has in Guatemala City with our mamas at Casita Adonai.

I have long dreamed of starting a microloan program where we give small loans to the mamas after they graduate from Threads of Promise.  These loans will allow them to purchase items like fabric that they need to start their business.  The gift that we received this week will allow us to start the microloan program.

God truly knew the desires of our hearts - because they are His desires.  And He loved the mamas in Guatemala enough to touch the heart of an anonymous donor.  Whoever you are, I hope you see this post.  And I pray that God will bless you and yours.  Please know that it was a blessing not only to the mamas but to me.
