7 Days of Celebration - Trauma leads to Jesus

As we continue our 7 Days of Celebration we want to share the story of our friend, *Maria*.

Extortion is a major issue in Guatemala.  It's not unheard of for gang members to go to people who own businesses and demand that they pay them or they will be killed.  Extortion was a part of every day life for Maria.  She owned a small cafe and for 10 years she gave the same extortionist $4 a day.  For 10 years.  Every day.  10 years.

One day in September Maria didn't have the $4 so the man shot her.....7 times.  It was a miracle that she survived and we were blessed to meet her in October when we visited a neighborhood Bible Study in her community.  The people that our partners had been investing in for several years had started investing in Maria.  They took her in, helped her, and loved on her.  And that night she asked Jesus into her heart.  It was a beautiful moment.  We saw her a few weeks later when we attended a wedding in the community.  She was growing and healing and smiling.  The road to healing of her physical and emotional trauma is long, but now she has a supportive community and the power of the Holy Spirit living in her.

We have found that many of our families have awesome ideas for businesses but they can't start them because of their fear of being extorted.  In our business training that we offered in 2017 we addressed this need with our friends and out of those conversations Florecer,  a new branch of Caroline's Promise began.

Florecer is the artisan branch of Caroline’s Promise. Through social media we will bring you handmade items from Guatemala and other countries that you can purchase. Artisans have been paid a fair price for their work. Profits from the sale of the products will go to projects in Guatemala through the ministries of Caroline’s Promise. Be sure to follow us on Instagram and  Facebook

Will you join us in praying for Maria and for all of those living in similar situations?  And pray for Florecer  - that God will use this part of the ministry to reclaim hope for many.

Building of Promise Fundraiser for Lisa's Birthday!

In 2013, God gave me a vision for a 3 story building at our partner church, Iglesia Adonai.  At the time, they had a one story structure that they shared with their school, Casita Adonai.  The roof was leaking and we assumed that we would just help them put a new roof on.  I clearly remember standing in my church’s sanctuary during a service when the vision came.  It wasn’t a new roof.  It was a building.   Over the next year, you helped us raise funds, and in March of 2014, we started the project.  The existing building was torn down, and over the next 4 years we raised money, built a little, raised more money, built some more.   Because of your support, students are learning in those classrooms today and church members are using the space for classes.  Our artisan group, Florecer works weekly in the space that you helped us provide.  Children and families are finding hope through Jesus, and leaders are being developed in that space.   We are so close to being finished.  The final stage…

To comfort all who mourn

Last Spring, our Board of Directors met with a Strategic Planning Team.  We felt like it was time to refocus and ask God what He wanted for His ministry.  The process seemed a bit cloudy and overwhelming when we began, but then He showed up, and we realized that we share the same heart: His heart for the people of Guatemala.

He gave us a new Vision Statement:

"A world where hope grows and communities thrive"
He gave us a new Mission Statement:

"Growing relationships that nourish individuals and communities to be whole  and thrive in Jesus Christ"
He clarified our objectives and helped us set goals.  We walked away knowing that the scripture that He so often had brought to us in the past would continue to be our theme.  Over the next few weeks, I hope to share stories of how your partnership with us in Guatemala is bringing Isaiah 61 to life.  Perhaps you would like to join me in praying this scripture daily or weekly over our community here in the states, as well a…

2019 - The Year of Clean Water

We are thrilled for the opportunity to provide life saving water filters and hygiene training to our communities in Guatemala this summer.  We will begin this project in June with 50 families in the community of Gerona.

Each water filter will last 10 years and provide an easy and effective way to purify water.

Our friends at Just One Africa have been using these filters in Kenya and we are thankful for their willingness to help us with our plan.  Check out their video of how the filters work.

Each filter is $65.  If you would like to be a part of this project, donate here.

Be sure to follow us on social media to catch all of the water filter updates to come!
