Big News! $12,000 Matching Grant Given for 3rd floor Soccer Court Concrete!

Last week we shared a Building of Promise Construction Update We told you that our most pressing need is $20,000 to pour the concrete that will be the ceiling of the second floor and base of the soccer/sport court. This space will be used by our school and church but will also allow us to offer a soccer league to the community as a form of outreach.  We need to pour the concrete ASAP before April rains come.    We are thrilled to announce that a friend of Caroline's Promise has offered a $12,000 Matching Grant toward this project. This means that every $1 you give will be matched, becoming $2. Thank you Jesus! The soccer/sport court will be here. We can't wait to see kids and families from the community enjoying this space and finding Jesus! Do you see those trees that God planted years ago? We think it was His dream to have this rooftop play space in area where kids can't safely play outside. So he went ahead and planted those trees in advance....

Entire families are changing in Guatemala

Urgent Need for Teachers in Guatemala! Casita Adonai school continues to be a ministry to the children in the Nimajayu community of Guatemala City, but more than just children are being helped.  On a recent visit to the school we heard the story of a family whose 3 children are enrolled.  The mother lived a life of prostitution and the father was involved in gang activity.  They both were known to use and sell drugs.  You can imagine the life that the children lived and yet, each day they were able to attend Casita where they received love, a quality education, and the knowledge that Jesus had not forgotten them.   Because the children were sponsored, the parents were able to afford the other half of tuition.  Otherwise they would have put them in the overcrowded public school where there are often 80 kids to 1 teacher.  In January the father of these children came to the school and the director sensed that he needed someone to tal...

Sponsor a Classroom at Casita!

Casita has had a great start to their new school year!  There are some specific needs that we would like to meet this year. We are looking for people who would like to sponsor classrooms. We are wanting to put diffusers in each classroom. Diffusers help with attention, reduce stress, and help with germs.  Additionally, we are wanting to give each teacher a copy of Jesus Calling in Spanish so that teachers can read it to their class each day.  You can sponsor a classroom for $40 each. There are currently 9 classrooms at Casita.  You can sponsor classrooms  here . You can click "wherever most needed" and write classrooms in the comment box.

Teacher Sponsorship Opportunities!

Our Teachers In Guatemala Are Amazing! We are so thankful for the team of teachers, administrators, and staff that God has provided in Guatemala. This team gives so much of themselves and we appreciate them. Our goal in 2018 is to pay them more because they are so deserving.  Tuition at Casita Adonai is covered by child sponsors and parents and is kept low so that families in this difficult community can send their children to a safe, loving school. The problem with tuition being so low is that the school is not able to pay the teachers the national minimum salary. We want to help change that! Caroline's Promise has committed to raise funds so that the teachers can make what they deserve. Our goal is to provide supplemental funds for a year while Casita increases their enrollment.  That's where you come in! We are looking for monthly sponsors who can give any amount towards this need. This would be a one year commitment and would make a huge differen...

Update on Building of Promise Construction - Photos!

Thank you for giving to our Building of Promise project.  As you know, this is the third and final floor of a building that benefits the school, church, and community.  The third floor will provide 3 additional classrooms, restrooms, an area for chickens, and and area for horticulture/urban gardening projects.   In addition, there will be a sport court - soccer field on this floor.  We are beyond excited about the doors for ministry that will be opened when this project is complete. Many of you gave to our #GivingTuesday Campaign and we want you to see how your investment is being used.  Completion of the third floor involves 3 stages and the first should be complete by the end of January.  We had to dig deep on the first floor so that columns could be created that will support the weight of the soccer field on the third floor.  In these photos you can see those columns being installed on the first and second floors.  Stairs have also been insta...

7 Days of Celebration - Pouring into the child I sponsor

During my second trip to Guatemala, I knew I wanted to find a child to sponsor through Caroline's Promise. Over the two weeks I was there, I prayed that God would reveal which child he wanted me to sponsor. One morning, I was praying for my sponsor child and asking God to make it clear which child he wanted me to sponsor. The same day we were giving out parasite medicine to all the kids at the school, which they absolutely hated.  I had been particularly drawn to one boy in the Prepa class, and we had bonded over the week. When we were giving out the medicine, I was with a friend in the Prepa class. All the kids were complaining about the parasite medicine and some were even spitting it out when we gave it to them. I gave the medicine to the child I had been bonding with over the week and he reluctantly swallowed the pills. He came back about five minutes later with a disgusted look on his face, took my hands, and threw the medicine up STRAIGHT INTO MY HANDS...

How $25 becomes $75 on #GivingTuesday

On #GivingTuesday (November 28, 2017) YOU can help us raise money to complete the Building of Promise by creating a personal fundraising page on Facebook.  On Tuesday, Facebook will waive the transaction fees for donations made on Facebook Fundraising Pages and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is donating $2 Million that day to charities by matching every dollar given on one of these pages.   The giving starts on Tuesday at 8am EST and will be given until the $2 Million is gone.   We think it will go quickly! And....to encourage people to give a generous donor is matching any donation made between 8 and 8:30am Tuesday, up to $2500.  How can you help? We need 50 people to set up Facebook fundraising pages prior to Tuesday morning and then promote it like crazy, encouraging people to give between 8 and 8:30am.   It's easy!  We've provided all of the instructions here and are ready to help ...

Kids at Casita love their new library

Last Spring we asked you to help us purchase books for the library at Casita Adonai and you came through!  Over 100 books were purchased and taken to Guatemala where our summer teams added them to the current collection.  The teachers on our teams worked hard to code all of the books by grade level and other members of our teams spruced the room up with paint, new furniture, and artwork by the students at Hayworth Christian School in High Point, NC.  A special highlight was when our teachers shared their experiences with the Casita teachers on how to best use the library and teaching kids to read.   The teachers at Casita are taking their students to the library regularly and report that this is often the highlight of their week.  Very few families have books in their homes because they are so expensive, so having a library is a treat!  We were even able to deliver adult books for our teachers to enjoy in their lounge. ...
