Construction Update

Look what you're helping us do in Guatemala! It's time to update you on the work being done on the Building of Promise. The original space on the first floor has been remodeled. Huge columns were installed in each classroom in an effort to support the third floor soccer/ sport court. All of the classrooms were enlarged and received new flooring. The hallway going out the back of the first floor will look very different to those of you who have visited. It no longer is open, because the second floor meeting room was expanded to accommodate the soccer court.  First floor hallway with classrooms to the right The large meeting room on the second floor was expanded, new windows are being installed on the right side of the room, and this area will receive new flooring. This created a larger meeting room and of course huge columns have been installed to support the soccer court. Part of the roof had to be removed during construction making this area "open...

Update on Building of Promise Construction - Photos!

Thank you for giving to our Building of Promise project.  As you know, this is the third and final floor of a building that benefits the school, church, and community.  The third floor will provide 3 additional classrooms, restrooms, an area for chickens, and and area for horticulture/urban gardening projects.   In addition, there will be a sport court - soccer field on this floor.  We are beyond excited about the doors for ministry that will be opened when this project is complete. Many of you gave to our #GivingTuesday Campaign and we want you to see how your investment is being used.  Completion of the third floor involves 3 stages and the first should be complete by the end of January.  We had to dig deep on the first floor so that columns could be created that will support the weight of the soccer field on the third floor.  In these photos you can see those columns being installed on the first and second floors.  Stairs have also been insta...

New Plans for the Building of Promise - We Need You!

When the Building of Promise was first planned we knew that it would have 3 floors.  The vision that God gave us clearly showed 3 levels and it was confirmed over and over when random people in Guatemala who didn't know about the project, told us of their dreams of a 3 story building that God would use to draw the community to Him.  You helped us build the first and second floors which have provided large classrooms, a beautiful library, offices, and a computer lab.  The church and school use this space daily.  Originally we thought that the third floor would be used to offer middle school grades, but after a lot of research, we have determined that the cost involved is not the best use of the resources God has given. I will admit, after several years of envisioning middle school grades in this space, I was a little confused when it became clear that this was not God's plan.  As a team, we began to look at this inner city community and our eyes were open...

On #GivingTuesday (November 28, 2017) YOU can help us raise money to complete the Building of Promise by creating a personal fundraising page on Facebook.  On Tuesday, Facebook will waive the transaction fees for donations made on Facebook Fundraising Pages and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is donating $2 Million that day to charities by matching every dollar given on one of these pages.   The giving starts on Tuesday at 8am EST and will be given until the $2 Million is gone.   We think it will go quickly! And....to encourage people to give a generous donor is matching any donation made between 8 and 8:30am Tuesday, up to $2500.  How can you help? We need 50 people to set up Facebook fundraising pages prior to Tuesday morning and then promote it like crazy, encouraging people to give between 8 and 8:30am.   It's easy!  We've provided all of the instructions here and are ready to help ...

Hold Fast Coffee - "Que Rico!"

In Guatemala when something tastes delicious we say "Que Rico!" Once again our friends at Hold Fast Coffee have created a special blend from Guatemala just for Caroline's Promise.  We are thankful for their partnership and investment in the work that God is doing in Guatemala.   All proceeds from the sell of this coffee will go to the completion of the Building of Promise in Guatemala City. You can order your ground coffee here or enjoy a cup or two at "Celebrate & Participate" on Friday, November 17.  This adorable owl mug from Guatemala will be available in our Fair Trade Market at the event. Check out their other blends and let them know that you appreciate their support of Caroline's Promise!

A Promise Fulfilled

A week or so ago was the first day of middle school for a lot of students and  their parents in our area. For the student it comes with first day pictures, first day outfits, first day excitement, and first day fears. Parents will have fears too...  Will they make friends? Will they eat a good lunch? Will they remember to bring all of their assignments home? Will they be bullied?  Those don't sound like small fears... especially the bullying part.  All valid questions.  I know a group of parents who sent their kids off to 6th grade at the beginning of this year. They have the same valid fears too.  Will they make friends? Will they eat a good lunch? Will they remember to bring all of their assignments home? Will they be bullied?   What will we do next year? Will I keep them home? Will they go to public school? Will they be in a gang? Will they be murdered by a gang? Will they be the murderer in a gang? Wait! Those are not the same questi...
