Your Year End Gift: Daniel's Story

On this last day of 2018 we want to share a powerful story of how your partnership has enabled us to live out one of the core values of Caroline's Promise.  Today's value is: "We value planting empowered and equipped leaders in the local community in order to become oaks of righteousness"   Isaiah 61:3 " They will be called oaks of righteousness,      a planting of the Lord (One of our favorite photos of Daniel - at a recent youth camp)      for the display of his splendor." Daniel is a beautiful example of the power of child sponsorship.  A family sponsored through Caroline's Promise Caroline's Promise partnered with the local church in Guatemala Daniel received financial, emotional, and spiritual support He grew and developed roots that are strong and deep He's now investing in and ministering to kids who were like him He shared his story with us: (Daniel with Kendall - age 6) "My name is Daniel an...

When the gory newspaper article is someone you know

My heart felt like it stopped when I finally put two and two together and realized who Delmi was talking about. She had messaged me to say that a 15 year old from the community had been murdered that morning.  I could feel her sadness through the words she wrote but it took my mind a few minutes to connect the dots and realize who it was.  Emerson. And then the tears came. Like a flood. I first met him in the summer of 2011.  His family lived near the church and school and he and his younger brother, Keiner were constantly hanging out.  We had added them to the sponsorship program and they were attending the school, Casita Adonai.  Emerson was a charmer with the most beautiful smile.  He and Keiner just wanted to hang out with us and help.  I remember finally asking Delmi if they could help me sort school supplies and I can still see their sweet faces when we finished the last box.  They had given back and they were proud.  The teen...

3rd Floor Construction Campaign

We have been blown away by your support of the Hope Grows campaign to construct a building in Guatemala City that benefits both our partner church, Iglesia Adonai, and the school, Casita Adonai! We originally thought that $100,000 would allow us to tear down the old building and construct the first floor.  God stretched that money and we were able to begin the second floor! Our partners at the church have worked tirelessly to raise funds on their own, bringing in several thousand dollars through their fundraising and personal giving!  This has been one of the highlights of the Hope Grows Campaign - watching them give sacrificially! Our 2015 teams were able to donate the remaining funds needed to not only complete the 2nd floor, but also remodel an existing area that had housed temporary classrooms. That space is now being used as a multi-purpose room, and everyone is using it! Our kiddos are enjoying their new classrooms and computer lab on the second floor. This ...

Rebar and Concrete Never Looked So Good!

Our friend, Douglass sent this photo to us this morning.   It was one of many, showing how the concrete on the top of the second floor is settling and drying.  This picture struck something deep in my heart.  You see, all over Latin America there are these columns of rebar sticking out of the tops of buildings.  If the people were ever to build another floor they would need these columns to connect to.  Sadly, there are buildings where the next floor never gets added.  Someone told me one time that to them, these columns were a sign of "hope".   There was always hope that construction would continue and another floor would be added. Today as I saw this photo I heard Jesus say "See.  I am doing what I said I would do." There have been times when I wondered if the first floor would be built.  Would we be able, along with our partners to raise the funds needed?  And yet, concrete for the top of the second floor was poured on S...

New School, Empty Rooms

By now you have probably heard the amazing news: the first floor of the school we are building in Guatemala is completed!  We are so thankful for all of your prayers and help! We will continue to raise funds for the second and third floors. However, right now we are in desperate need of desks, now that the number of classrooms has increased, as well as locking file cabinets for our teachers and administration. Can you help?  Perhaps you know of a ministry, school group, or business that would like to sponsor one of these items. Even the smallest donation is a much-appreciated step in the right direction. You can donate here:  http://www.carolinespromise. net/make-a-donation Please choose the fund "Guatemala Orphan Projects" and write the item in the comment box. 8 locking desks for teachers -  $100 each 2 File Cabinets for Administrator's office - $175 each 8 Chairs - $80 each 8 File Cabinets for teachers - $300 each

Calling all Guatemala Adoptive Families

I remember the first Christmas that our daughter, Caroline celebrated with us.  We became a family on December 1, 2003 when her adoption from Guatemala was final.  That Christmas was extra special to say the least!  If you're like me you often wonder what life would have been like for your child if they had remained in Guatemala.  Even more, you probably wonder what your life would be like had you not been united with them! This Christmas we are offering a very special way for you to honor your child while helping kids in Guatemala who struggle daily.  Caroline's Promise is in the midst of constructing a 3 story school in Guatemala City.  Casita Adonai is home to 165 of the most vulnerable children in the area.  They not only receive a quality Christian education, but they receive food, safety, and lots of love!  Their parents are also assisted through  parent education and job skills training.  Hope is truly being reclaimed for kids...

Skip a Meal, Be a Piece of the Puzzle

We can hardly believe it! Our goal with the HOPE GROWS CAMPAIGN has been to raise $100,000 to construct a new building for the church and school in Guatemala City.  We have had several commitments for gifts that we expect to come in by the end of February.  If they all come in we will only lack $4700! In December we asked you to help us complete the Hope Grows puzzle by "purchasing" a puzzle piece for $25.  There are 188 pieces left in the puzzle.  When all of them are purchased the puzzle will be complete and we can begin construction!  We will write the name of each donor on the back of their puzzle piece and hang it in a double sided frame in the new school! We need you.  Really, we do.  Most of all, the kids need you. Here's how you can help! 1.  If you haven't already purchased a puzzle piece - do it today! During the month of February we're encouraging you to skip one meal "out" as a family.  It's easy for the averag...

A sweet answer to prayer

Last week I felt led to spend two days praying specifically for our Hope Grows Campaign to build a new building for the church and school in Guatemala City.  Don't get me wrong - this project is usually at the top of my prayer list.  But I sensed God asking me to pray specifically that He would make the need known to His people and touch their hearts to give.   Fundraising is such a balance.  On one hand I want to trust that God owns it all and will provide the money in His time, but on the other hand I am reminded that we often don't have what we need because we don't ask.  As I've grown weary in fundraising the past few months my approach has changed a bit.  I've been honest with God about my disappointment and what appears to me to be his "slowness" in answering my prayers.  You see, I KNOW that this building is God's plan.  He's made it clear to me over the past two years.  My latest approach is to ask Him what my part is, do tha...

The Story Behind the Photo of the Little Girl

By now we hope that you've check out our new website!  We would love to share the story behind the photo of the little girl on the home page. Her name is Raisa.   In December of 2010 our team met Raisa and her 5 siblings.  They had recently moved into the area near Iglesia Adonai after their parents' marriage dissolved.  The older brother, Max who was 13 at the time had been bringing them to church.  We had the privilege of visiting their home that week and learned that the older children had to take turns caring for the younger kids while their mom worked.   When Keila and Carlos went to school their older brothers, Max & Alex took care of the two little ones.  In the afternoon they switched and Keila and Carlos cared for them while the older kids went to school.  We walked to the rooftop of their home and I naiivly asked, "Do you play up here?"  I'll never forget Keila's response.  She looked confused and th...

Girls Changing the World! Send a girl to camp

When Caroline's Promise met with the leadership of Iglesia Adonai in March, and we started comparing notes about the summer teams, we were amazed and thrilled at what God had in store for us. One of our summer teams this year is very unique. It's all women. This seemed a challenge for us at first, because we typically like our summer teams to be a well-balanced group of ages and genders so as to accommodate the mix we will find in Guatemala. However, God had special plans in mind, and all women suited His needs perfectly. You see, Iglesia Adonai has identified 30 girls, ages 13-23 who are leaders in the church and community.  These are the young ladies who are ministering to orphans and vulnerable children in their community on a daily basis!  Iglesia Adonai has asked us to partner with them to offer a camp  this summer called "Girls Changing the World". The only way Caroline's Promise would be able to assist that camp, is if they had a team with no m...
